Father-Daughter Collaborations & Community Involvement
Hello. We are Jim Demetro and assistant Christina Demetro, a father-daughter sculpting team since 1992, drawing inspiration from everyday life themes, nature, and historical moments and events. We work with bronze, stainless steel and other mixed media, depending on the topic. We have also included dynamic elements that help the artwork come alive, including water, interactive elements, musical sounds, and even fire. We enjoy the diversity we create, both with modern abstract sculptures and realistic figurative monuments.
Community Involvement
When able, we include the public in the co-creation of outdoor sculptures. Examples include:
Captain George Vancouver
by Jim Demetro and assistant Christina Demetro.
In 1998, over 1,300 community members helped co-sculpt.
Andale Bernardo
By Jim Demetro and assistant Christina Demetro.
This sculpture’s central figure is a life-size burro, an important part of the history of Mexico and Puerto Vallarta. And in typical fashion, the burro is resisting the efforts of two small boys to move along. One boy pushes while another offers a carrot to encourage it. A dog gets into the act, tugging on the pant leg of one of the boys.
The sculpture gets its name, Andale Bernardo, from the boys urging the burro along – “Andale” – and “Bernardo,” the name of the burro that posed for the sculptor.
In 2014, community members and classrooms of school children helped co-sculpt the burro, dog and statues.
Demetro has designed this sculpture to be interactive. Kids can climb on the burro’s back to have their picture taken.
Vallarta Dancers
By Jim Demetro and assistant Christina Demetro.
Schools and the community of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, helped in the creation of the Vallarta Dancers statues in 2006.
The Fisherman

In 2016, 94 Boys and Girls Club kids and students co-sculpted the Whale Song sculpture.
Wildheart The Giving Salmon
By Christina Demetro
In 2017, three elementary and middle schools helped co-sculpt Wildheart The Giving Salmon in Homer, Alaska.
The Peace Crane
By Christina Demetro
In 2019, over a thousand participants in 40 classrooms and two public workshops helped co-sculpt the Peace Crane in the towns of Kenai, Soldotna and Sterling.
In 2020 and early 2021, to combat isolation due to COVID-19, 50 and then later 282 diverse families were invited to participate in the Love From Alaska art project and the Wings of Unity art project.
